University Chorale

Photograph of University Chorale

A major ensemble of 50-60 undergraduate and graduate singers selected by audition and representing many majors throughout the university, the ensemble is dedicated to the study and performance of outstanding choral repertoire.  The Chorale has worked with Sarah Caldwell (Boston Opera), performed with renowned tenors José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti, and sung the Brahms Requiem with the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra at the 1996 Music Educator's National Convention in Kansas City.  Chorale performed at the 1997 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in San Diego.

Jo-Michael Scheibe, Conductor.

Chamber Singers

A major ensemble of 16-20 undergraduate and graduate students, the singers perform challenging chamber repertoire from the Renaissance to the Twentieth Century.  Chamber Singers often join with other UM choral ensembles to perform major works such as Bach's St. Matthew Passion.

Jo-Michael Scheibe, Supervisor.

Collegium Musicum

A 40-voice ensemble specializing in the study and performance of Baroque and Renaissance music, the Collegium Musicum is the chorus for the Miami Bach Society.  In 1995, the Collegium sang Bach's St. Matthew Passion for the celebration of the Bach Society's 10th anniversary.  The Collegium Musicum regularly works with nationally known soloists in performances of music by Bach, Handel, Purcell, Vivaldi, and others.  Open to undergraduate, graduate and community singers by permission.

Donald Oglesby, Conductor.

Men's Chorale

A male chorus of undergraduate students accepted by audition, the chorus represents all areas of the university. This ensemble features a wide variety of choral music, including music with a multi-cultural perspective.

Women's Chorale

This 40-voice women's ensemble was established in the Fall of 1993 due to the overwhelming request by students. A variety of excellent choral literature for women's choruses is explored.

Civic Chorale

A 90-voice ensemble of community singers, as well as faculty, students, and staff, the chorale performs four annual concerts.  In addition, CCGM often performs with various symphony orchestras in the greater Miami area.

Jo-Michael Scheibe and Robert Gower, Conductors.

Jazz Vocal I
Jazz Vocal II
Jazz Vocal III

These three ensembles of 16 selected singers offer an opportunity for in-depth study of vocal jazz in a variety of styles.  The ensembles are open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Larry Lapin, Conductor
