All auditions must be accompanied.

On-Campus Auditions - An accompanist will be provided.
Applicants must provide copied music for the accompanist in a 3 ring binder.

Regional Auditions - Accompanists are not provided. Please
either bring an accompanist or bring your accompaniment pre-recorded and a play back unit.

A brief sight-reading, tonal retention and theory examination
will be given at the time of the audition. Studio Music and Jazz
majors will be asked to demonstrate improvisational skills.

Recorded Auditions - Recorded auditions are accepted for students living north of Orlando, Florida. All majors except Studio Music and Jazz must send a DVD recording. Studio Music and Jazz Majors send only the audio recording. Recordings must be sent to the Music Admission Office and be received by February 1.




Perform one classical art song or an aria in any language from an opera, oratorio, or operetta. The selection should demonstrate vocal range, phrasing ability, and interpretive skills.

   
Perform an additional memorized selection from one of the following categories:
   
 
Opera, oratorio, or operetta
Art song
Musical Theatre
   
  All selections must be memorized.
 



Two 16 bar musical theatre selections contrasting in style, preferably one standard musical theatre ballad and one up-tempo (preferably belt).

   
Two contrasting, contemporary monologues, each no longer than 2 minutes.
   
Bring a headshot and resume, plus a repertoire sheet (listing songs you have studied).
  For ON-CAMPUS auditions only, 1) bring dance clothes, and 2) prepare your music for the accompanist (3-hole punched and double-sided).
 

Prescreening:  DVD preferred, but CD is acceptable. Requirements are the same as listed below.

The audition will consist of four (4) prepared selections as listed below:

Perform two (2) selections from the traditional jazz or standard repertoire at different tempos; one medium and one fast swing.  One of these selections should include at least one chorus of jazz improvisation. These selections should be performed with live piano accompaniment. 

Perform one (1) slow tempo ballad from the standard or jazz repertoire (not in a 12/8 time feel). To be performed with live piano accompaniment.

Perform one (1) selection of your choice from the above or any other style (Latin, Rock, Pop, R&B, Fusion, original compositions, etc.).  This piece may be performed with live, self or recorded accompaniment.

You will be asked to demonstrate sight singing ability and to sing back three sets of four-note interval patterns played on the piano.

An accompanist will be provided for on-campus auditions.  Applicant must provide lead sheets prepared in his/her performance keys.
