Steps for Creating a Rubric

Red Line

1.  Identify exactly what is to be scored. 

2.  Define the scale (point range) of the rubric. 

3.  Develop descriptors for each performance level that Descripts

a.  describe unique characteristics, and
b.  use unbiased language.
4.  Assure that the rubric Check
a.  defines a continuum of quality,
b.  focuses on the same criteria,
c.  validly discriminates performance levels, and
d.  can be reliably rated.
