The Wind Ensemble, under the baton of
Gary D. Green, consists of the finest graduate and undergraduate wind and percussion players at the University of Miami. Active in the performance of new music, the ensemble has commissioned, premiered, and performed compositions by such notable composers as Charles Campbell, Michael Colgrass, Kenneth Fuchs, Thomas Sleeper, James Syler, and Eric Whitacre and has sponsored residences by David Maslanka, Michael Daugherty and Robert Xavier Rodriquez. Performances and recordings on the Albany Label have received national attention and rave reviews from
American Record Guide and
Fanfare for performance excellence and contribution to the wind band repertoire. The ensemble has performed at numerous conferences of the Florida Music Educators’ Association and the College Band Directors’ National Association. Former members of the ensemble hold positions in prestigious ensembles and serve as teachers and conductors throughout the world. The group meets both long semesters with auditions held the week prior to the beginning of the fall semester.
