Gary Green

Director of Bands - Gary D. Green

Professor and Chair, Department of Instrumental Performance, and Director of Bands, teaches conducting and serves as the conductor of the Wind Ensemble. Mr. Green holds a B.M. degree from Boise State University and an M.M. degree from the University of Idaho. He formerly conducted the University of Connecticut's Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble, and Marching Band. Mr. Green also was director of bands at University High School in Spokane, Washington, one of the most widely respected band programs in the nation. Throughout his career, Mr. Green has received numerous honors and awards. In addition, he has conducted all state, regional, national, and international honor bands.

Phillip Clements

Associate Director of Bands - Phillip L. Clements

Professor and Associate Director of Bands and Director of the “Band of the Hour” Marching Band. Mr. Clements also conducts the Symphonic Winds concert band and teaches courses in the music education division.  Before his appointment to the University of Miami, Clements was Director of Bands and Director of the marching band at the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to his tenure at UT - Arlington, he taught high school band in the Richardson (TX) Independent School District and later served as Assistant Director of Bands at the University of North Texas. Clements is a graduate of the University of North Texas where he completed both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music education. Mr. Clements is in continuous demand as a guest conductor, clinician and drill designers for bands across the nation.

 

Senior Staff Assistant - Charles L. Damon

Charles Damon is the Senior Staff Assistant for the Band Department. Mr. Damon has been with the University of Miami since 1998. Mr. Damon is the liaison between the band department and the University of Miami, including the athletic department. He has coordinated many past band events including homecoming and trips to Florida State University, University of Florida, and The Rose Bowl National Championship.
