The Bergonzi String Quartet spent the month of June performing and teaching at two Music festivals: The Hot Springs Festival in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and the Pine Mountain Music Festival, on the campus of Michigan Tech. University of Houghton, Michigan. Prior to their trip north, however, the foursome tackled two 20th century quartets in the recording studio, now scheduled for release this December on a compact disc bearing the Fleur de son label. Both the Debussy String Quartet and the Ginastera String Quartet No. 1 are important works historically, but they stand on their own as great music even today; the Debussy, with its lush, rich harmony and poignant melodic flow, and the Ginastera's driving rhythms and passionate Latin flavor.
