Frost
School alumnus Bruce Hornsby (BM '77) and his wife, Kathy, recently
made a $600,000 gift to the Frost School to create a groundbreaking
new songwriting program, The Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music
Program, as well as to endow a scholarship.
"This innovative, interdisciplinary program seeks to enrich the experiences
of aspiring songwriters in ways not found in any other music school,"
said William Hipp, Dean Emeritus of the Frost School.
The new program will be available to all music undergraduates with
key courses open to any UM student. Music students completing 18 credits
in the program will earn a Minor in Creative American Music.
New courses currently in the works include African-American Song Tradition
and Anglo-American Song Tradition, as well as lyric writing, pop music,
and songwriting ensembles.
