A member of the choral music faculty at the University of Miami for over 20 years, Dr. Donald Oglesby is Artistic Director and Conductor of the Miami Bach Society. He also serves as Director of Choral Music at the historic Plymouth Congregational Church in Coconut Grove. Dr. Oglesby received a Bachelor of Music degree from Birmingham-Southern College, a Masters degree in musicology from the University of Illinois and a Doctor of Music degree with distinction from Indiana University, where he concentrated in choral conducting. His teachers have included Robert Shaw, Julius Herford, Helmuth Rilling, and Hugh Thomas.

He has been president of the Florida chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and the Miami chapters of Pi Kappa Lambda and Pi Kappa Phi honor societies. In December 1989, his performance of Handel’s Messiah was broadcast nationally by NBC on Christmas Day. Choirs under Dr. Oglesby’s direction have toured the eastern United States as well as Great Britain and Europe. Currently, he is on the Research and Publications Committee of the American Choral Directors’ Association and serves on the Editorial Board of the Choral Journal.
Director of the University of Miami Collegium Musicum and the Chamber Singers, Dr. Oglesby teaches choral literature, conducting, and special topics, and directs graduate research. He is also coordinator of the Bachelor of Arts in Music program for the School of Music.
