The L. Austin Weeks Recording
Studio ranks among the best academic recording studios in the world.
The control room houses a 48-fader Eupohonix System 5 digital mixing
console which boasts 24 kbit, 96 kHz recording capability and support
for 5.1 surround mixing. Other features include Genelec studio monitor
and amplification system, digital video editors, hard-disk recorders
and CD recorders, timecode DAT recorders, and a wide variety of
outboard gear including Drawmer gates, dbx compressors, Roland spatial
processors, and Lexicon effects processors. Also integrated is a
"house sync" for video, digital multi-track, ProTools,
and MIDI synchronization. This control room also connects to the
Clarke Recital Hall as well as a smaller recording studio adjacent
to Clarke Hall. The Weeks Studio sound chamber features a 20-foot
ceiling, two isolation rooms, assignable microphone panels, audio/video
playback, and a Steinway grand piano. The audio equipment in the
studio was installed by enrolled students working under faculty
supervision; this included installation of components, console wiring,
fiber optic network, as well as general maintenance and improvement.
