Weeks Recording Studio

  The L. Austin Weeks Recording Studio ranks among the best academic recording studios in the world. The control room houses a 48-fader Eupohonix System 5 digital mixing console which boasts 24 kbit, 96 kHz recording capability and support for 5.1 surround mixing. Other features include Genelec studio monitor and amplification system, digital video editors, hard-disk recorders and CD recorders, timecode DAT recorders, and a wide variety of outboard gear including Drawmer gates, dbx compressors, Roland spatial processors, and Lexicon effects processors. Also integrated is a "house sync" for video, digital multi-track, ProTools, and MIDI synchronization. This control room also connects to the Clarke Recital Hall as well as a smaller recording studio adjacent to Clarke Hall. The Weeks Studio sound chamber features a 20-foot ceiling, two isolation rooms, assignable microphone panels, audio/video playback, and a Steinway grand piano. The audio equipment in the studio was installed by enrolled students working under faculty supervision; this included installation of components, console wiring, fiber optic network, as well as general maintenance and improvement.
