Dean of the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music since 1983, holds the Patricia L. Frost Endowed Chair. His faculty appointment is in the Department of Music Education and Music Therapy. Hipp was awarded B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, and has held faculty and administrative appointments at Del Mar College, Illinois Wesleyan University, and Southern Methodist University. His active research interests have included music curricula and faculty evaluation in higher education. His activities with the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) have included serving as a visiting evaluator or consultant at more than 50 institutions; membership in NASM's Undergraduate Commission for six years, serving as Treasurer for two terms (1989-95); and presenting papers, workshops, and special sessions at national meetings. He is the immediate past president of NASM. He also has served as president of both the Texas Association of Music Schools and the Florida Association of Schools of Music. He currently serves as a board member of numerous professional, civic, and arts organizations at local, state, and national levels.
