Nicolas DeCarbo
Nicholas DeCarbo
is Associate Dean of Administration and Professor of Music Education at the University of Miami where he teaches conducting and undergraduate and graduate courses in instrumental methods, and supervises associate teachers. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, DeCarbo attended Youngstown State University where he received bachelor and master's degrees in music and received the Ph.D. in Music Education from Kent State University. Dr. DeCarbo began his teaching career in the public schools of Pennsylvania where he taught instrumental music at the elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels for ten years, and served as music director and conductor of the Youngstown (OH) Symphony Youth Orchestra for ten years. He has published research in the major journals in music education including the Journal of Research in Music Education, Journal of Band Research, Contributions to Music Education, Research Perspectives in Music Education, and Music Educators Journal. DeCarbo serves as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator throughout the United States.
