MELISSA DE GRAAF

Melissa de Graaf was appointed to the Frost School of Music as an Assistant Professor of Musicology.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in English and Music from University of California – Davis, a master of Fine Arts and Women’s Studies from Brandeis University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology from Brandeis University in 2006.  Dr. de Graaf received many honors in the last thee years, including the Music Library Association’s Dena Epstein Award for Archival and Library Research in American Music, the American Association of University Women’s Dissertation Fellowship, the Brandeis University Prize Instructorship, the Spencer Foundation for Education Research Grant, and the Isak Kazes Prize in Women’s Studies.  DeGraff’s previous appointments were at University of Connecticut, Northeastern University, and Brandeis University.   Her research interests are in modernism, American music, gender/feminist theory, politics and music, race representation in music, and popular music.
