Gilbert Johnson, Professor (Trumpet), received a B.M. degree from the Julius Hartt School of Music and the University of Hartford with advanced studies at the Curtis Institute of Music. Johnson was principal trumpet for 17 years with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy and has appeared as soloist with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and the New Orleans Philharmonic. He was a member of the Philadelphia Brass Ensemble and served on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music.
