Rachel L. Lebon, Professor (Jazz Voice), received B.M. and M.M.E. degrees from North Texas State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Miami. Lebon was previously on the faculty of Belmont College, Nashville, Tennessee and is currently Professor of Music (Jazz Voice) at the University of Miami.
Performance tours include worldwide (Continental U.S., Alaska and the Aleutians, Hawaii, and throughout Southeast Asia) with the Air Force "Tops in Blue," as well as in an official U.S. State Department Tour of the U.S.S.R. and Portugal with North Texas State University's "One O'Clock Jazz Band."
Her professional activities include "club dates", industrial shows,
television specials, studio jingles and back-up vocals in the Dallas/Ft. Worth
Metroplex, Nashville, and Miami,
Dr. Lebon has also performed as a classical vocal soloist, performing oratorio
and choral works, as well as with the Nashville Opera Quartet. She has also
premiered music by contemporary composers, including Kevin Hiatt and Richard
Landry.
Lebon has presented papers, workshops, and/or clinics worldwide for such organizations as The Voice Foundation Symposium on Care of the Professional Voice, the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP), National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA), the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Grammy in the Schools, the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) and the Amsterdam, Maastricht and Hilversum Conservatories .
Lebon is a member of the Professional Voice Institute, an inter-disciplinary team devoted to the treatment of Vocal Disorders. Her articles have been published in the Journal of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She is the author of the book entitled The Professional Vocalist: A Handbook for Commercial Singers and Teachers published by Scarecrow Press. Her Jazz CD, entitled Voicings was released in July 2004.
