Voice Department W. Franklin Summers

Russell Young, Adjunct Assistant Professor (Vocal Repertoire Coach) and Program Director, Opera Theater Program, received a B.M. degree from Baylor University, an M.M. degree from Northeast Louisiana University, and a D.M.A. from the University of Miami. He was awarded a Gramma Fisher Fellowship for study in accompanying and operatic coaching in Graz, Austria. Young has served as coach/accompanist for Western Opera Theater in San Francisco and the Stadtstheater in Darmstadt, Germany. He also has been associated with the Greater Miami Opera and Gold Coast Opera in Pompano Beach. In demand as a vocal accompanist, Young has accompanied many great artists, including Kathleen Battle, Evelyn Lear, Thomas Steward, Joy Davidson, Joseph Evans, Sunny Joy Langton, Dean Peterson, and his wife, Jana Young. He is on the coaching staff of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and the University of Miami in Salzburg program.
