Gary Green is professor of music and director of bands at the Frost School. In addition to supervising all band activities, he is the conductor of the Frost Wind Ensemble and chairman of Instrumental Performance. Since his arrival at the University of Miami, Green has continued to commission and perform important new repertoire. Urban Requiem by Michael Colgrass, commissioned by the Abraham Frost Commission Fund, has become a standard in the repertoire for wind ensemble. Recordings released on the Albany label include Urban Requiem, Blue, Christinas World, and Illuminations. New recordings of works by David Maslanka, Thomas Sleeper, and Brian Balmages will soon be released.
Green also is an active conductor and clinician who has appeared with international, national, and regional bands throughout the U.S. He has conducted the Texas All-State band and recently conducted the Republic of China Army Band and the Taiwan National Wind Ensemble as part of the 2005 International Band Association Festival.
