Gusman Lab

gusman1.jpg (31218 bytes)The Gusman Media Lab (GML) is a fully digital workplace used for music and effects creation and 5.1-channel surround mixing to picture (see the Gusman equipment list).  In addition, the lab is used for digital video editing and video production as well as computer graphic design.

Formerly an analog recording/mixing studio, GML was completely renovated in the Fall of 2000, with new floor, wall and ceiling acoustical design, and installation of completely new equipment.  The technology complement allows hard-disk recording and mixing using a ProTools 24 MixPlus hard-disk recording system, multichannel mixing for video, audio-video synchronization (MIDI and Digital Timepieces) and sound design for video.

Students use the laboratory to create 5.1-channel surround audio tracks and synchronize them with video footage in an entirely digital environment. Students can also edit computer graphics and insert them into video footage. In the future, GML will be used for DVD authoring and mastering.
