Career Expo 2000
Companies recruitring MUE/GMUE/EAN at Career Expo September 2000:
Adapted Wave Technologies: were listed in book, but weren't at actual Expo
Anheurser-Busch: They have a branch which control entertainment parks such
as Busch Garden and Sea World. Might have theme-park type engineering jobs like
Disney. Recruiter lady didn't know much about technical careers. Referred me to web
site.
Bell South: Based in Atlanta, GA. Communications company looking for
EE/EAN interested in voice rec., phone, and wireless phone stuff. Referred to
website.
CBS News: I suppose wants MUE's, but I'm not sure.
Cirrus Logic: Chip maker based in Austin. Looking for Digital and Analog
engineering people.
Dolby Lab: Engineering based in San Fran. loooking for audio people.
Federal Bureau of Investigation: Looking for audio/video forensic
examiners. Recruiting guy had hired some other UM grads. and was really looking for
some more. Sounded like a "demanding" job that might be difficult to
seperate work and home life. Really could easily go into law enforcement and become
an agent. No drugs or backgroud problems, as they thoroughly check you out.
Based in Maryland if I recall right.
Honda R&D: Honda has a research group in Ohio that works on the car
audio systems. Might be interesting.
IBM: Looking more for EEs than music folks. Hard core engineering
design, possibly at system level involving multimedia (CD, DVD, Video, Dig. cameras,
etc). Based out of North Carolina...Raleigh, I think.
Lucent Technologies: Big company looking for talent. Mostly engineering
and telecommunication related.
Momentum Data Systems: Had booth, but nobody there to talk with.
Seem like hard core EE and multimedia electronics.
Motorola: Big lines to talk w/ Mot. all day. Another chip
manufacturer looking for DSP audio folks. I didn't really get to talk to anyone
there.
Nextel Comm.: Another communication company looking for engineers
Nortel Networks: Communications company again Suggested to register on
their website.
Polk Audio: Based in Baltimore, Marland. Weren't hiring anyone really, but
are known in home and pro audio. Just got involved with Multimedia speakers w/ the
HP computer system.
Shure Inc.: Based in IL...outside of Chicago. Microphone and audio
electronics company. Seemed cool.
Texas Instruments: Chip maker. Recruiting for their internet audio
group. UM grad works there. Seemed to be a cool place to be involved with
technology, but they also seem to work their engineers pretty hard (no paid overtime).
Walt Disney: They were only recruiting for IT people. Do look
for "imagineers" which are based in Cali. and somewhat in Orlando.
Referred to website again.
