STAFF PIANIST
Gregory Thompson, staff pianist,
is Associate Professor of Music and Acting Chair of the Department
of Music and Fine Arts at Johnson C. Smith University. Dr. Thompson
has held several positions which include: Assistant Professor and
Chair of the Music Departments at Claflin University in Orangeburg,
SC and at Benedict College in Columbia, SC. He also served as
Instructor of Music and College Organist/Accompanist at Morris
College in Sumter, SC. Dr. Thompson holds the B.A. degree in Piano
Performance from Limestone College, the M.M. degree in Piano
Performance from Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University,
and the D.M.A. degree in Piano Performance from The University of
South Carolina. He has done additional study in the United States
and in Europe. He also serves as Pianist and Choral Accompanist for
Calvary Church of Charlotte, NC. and as principal accompanist for
the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Chorus. Dr. Thompson has
performed as a solo and collaborative artist in the United States,
Europe, and Asia. Thompson has collaborated with numerous
performers including Wilhemenia Fernandez, soprano, Derek Lee Ragin,
counter-tenor, Alan Glassman of the Metropolitan Opera, and other
singers and instrumentalists. He has collaborated with Dr. Julia
Quick, violinist in two CD recordings of Music for Violin and
Piano. Dr. Thompson also serves as staff accompanist for the
University of Miami at Salzburg Program in Salzburg, Austria.
