The Frost School of Music offers a large variety of summer programs for local audiences as well as UM students. Programs are available in dance, elementary/secondary school music, computer applications in music education, music psychotherapy, band directors’ workshop, teacher training in the Suzuki approach, guitar camp, choral music workshop, choral music camp, and much more.

In addition, a special course in Music and World Cultures offers an introduction to the music and cultures of the Middle East, India, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia. Slides, videotapes, audiotapes, and exposure to the instruments typical of each area are part of the program.

For those who wish to explore Miami’s cultural diversity through its music, a special course on Miami’s Musical Heritage explores the sounds and rhythms of Cuba, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, the Caribbean, and American jazz through their African roots. Participants gain hands-on experience on percussion instruments indigenous to the various cultures, combining originality with traditional sounds in a class ensemble.
